Visitors to one of Kent’s most popular attractions can now sit back, relax and listen to GPS-triggered audio commentary as they travel along the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.
The audio tour app, developed by AT Creative, has two tours along the full 13.5 mile length: one providing commentary from Hythe to windswept Dungeness, the other in the opposite direction. Each tour provides different stories, with the audio triggering at set locations to add context and layers of history to the view outside the window. Visitors can alight at any of the stations to begin their tour.
Dan really knows his stuff technically, and knows how to communicate it. The technology was tailored to our needs and he was endlessly patient throughout the process. Highly recommended.

Listening ears
Learn about the stations, villages, towns and countryside you travel through, how the shingly Dungeness headland formed, and the ‘pioneer plants’ that colonised. You’ll also discover the role that the large concrete ‘listening ears’ played during the Second World War.

If you run a heritage (or mainline) train service, how could it be enhanced with automated audio commentary?
