A self-guided tour around Gower’s premier visitor attraction, and its environs. Features multilingual content and offline mapping.
Set in the heart of the Gower Peninsula, Gower Heritage Centre is the premier visitor attraction of the area. The rural life museum is based around a working 12th century water mill.
We were commissioned to develop a digital visitor guide that would enhance the visitor experience and provide engaging interpretation for the key points of interest. The site has poor mobile coverage and limited Wi-Fi at reception.
The first iteration of the app utilised Bluetooth beacons at each of the key points of interest inside the building, but we opted to for a different strategy that uses an interactive floor plan of the building with hotspots to guide visitors around the exhibits. The app also features a number of walking trails that start at Gower Heritage Centre and take visitors to other nearby sites, such as the iconic Three Cliffs Bay. GPS tracks visitors in real time as they follow the route, via offline mapping.
Language selector
We worked closely with the client to develop the content and translate it into Welsh. The language selector within the app detects which default language the visitor’s device is set to and serves the app content in that language (if available). All users can also choose the option of switching languages too. All content can be easily updated via our Content Management System.
