The second self-guided trails app for Rushmoor Borough Council, the Farnborough Heritage Trails app reveals the story of the ‘Birthplace of Aviation’.
Farnborough’s place in aviation history would not have happened if the Army had not moved the Balloon School across from Aldershot in 1905. This marked the beginning of an era of experimental flying and research that took Britain to the forefront of aviation development and ensured Farnborough’s place in history.
I have worked closely with Dan Boys and the team at AT Creative on the development of the Farnborough Heritage Trails app. Dan guided us throughout the process, clearly explaining what he needed and when. He was happy to assist when we needed help and was always quick to respond to any queries. Dan communicated well with members of the project team and volunteers and was able to quickly fix anything that came up in the testing phase. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend AT Creative to any place wanting to create a trails app for their venue/town and thank him for all of the work he has done for us.

There are a number of trails on the app. Along the way you’ll explore the history of the original village, find evidence of the early pottery industry and visit to the site of an infamous bare knuckle fight that lasted over 2 hours! But no visit to farnborough would be complete without learning about the progression from the earliest recorded flight in this country to through the development of world famous research facilities, noting some prominent contributors on the way.
