The Kirkwall Heritage App tells the story of more than 100 buildings and sites of interest in Kirkwall and their role in the development of the town over the last millennia.
The app contains a vast number of images and a wealth of historical information, pulled together with the help of local experts. It’s one way people can dip into the history and heritage of specific places, either as they follow one of the trails on the app, or just as they are out and about in the town. The app was funded via the Townscape Heritage Initiative.
This was the first time we’ve done a multimedia app and Dan from AT Creative made it really straightforward, leading us through the process step by step. They were responsive to the needs of the brief, proactive in proposing solutions and quick to resolve any technical issues. We particularly appreciated being able to draw on their experience of heritage interpretation and different types of apps, and their openness to try different approaches. Feedback has been excellent since launching the app.
