It’s not very exciting but it is important to communicate your app’s privacy practices with users before they download the app on their iOS or Android device. The template below is provided in good faith and is intended to help you prepare an app privacy policy for your Places and trails app. The resulting privacy policy should be set up as a separate page on your own website.
You may choose to copy the template below and adapt it for your own purposes. It is not legally binding. Please use at your own risk. Comments within square brackets [like this] are to help you decide whether that element is required for your specific app. If unsure please contact us.
Once our app privacy policy is live on your website the link can be applied to the relevant app store(s) to ensure you remain compliant.

The app asks your permission to use your device’s location to give location-based services, such as the ability to locate yourself on the map, identify how far the device is from points of interest listed within the app, and to trigger rich content pages when the device falls within the trigger zone ( a pre-determined distance) of a point of interest. The app may also request to send notifications to alert you when you at a place of interest. This data is not stored or shared and permissions can be changed via your device’s Settings app at any time.
[The app may also ask your permission to access the camera if using one of the camera-based functions [i.e. souvenir photo, photo filter, SUPERimpose, Augmented Reality]. In this instance the app needs to access the camera in order to perform that function within the camera view. You may also be asked to allow access to media storage in order for any files you create to be saved them to your device. Photos generated by the app are not transmitted off the device except by the user explicitly sharing the generated image using the share sheet and other apps they have installed on their devices.]
[This app contains a survey that you may wish to complete. The questions are designed to provide anonymous answers however, the final question provides a free text field to populate. We recommend you do not provide personal information here unless you are happy to do so. [Heat mapping uses the users precise location to create an anonymised heat map of app users within the app’s project area. The data is sent every 5 minutes along with a randomly generated ID that is not connected in anyway with the user’s device. The ID is regenerated at least every 12 hours. Heat mapping happens when the user is within [x] metres of [LATITUDE,LONGITUDE].]

Conclusion
This is a privacy policy that a user may choose to view before installing the app. On Google Play, when you view the page for an app, you’ll see a “Developer contact” section. Inside this section is a privacy policy link. If you tap the link, you’ll be taken to a web page the developer has set up. It is this link that is required. It needs to be hosted somewhere on your website (PDFs are not allowed). It will either be its own separate webpage or incorporated into your existing website privacy policy. Its purpose is to allow users to review what an app will do with their data before they install it.
